Summary

The No。 1 New York Times bestselling DIVERGENT series, now available as a four-book boxed set including DIVERGENT, INSURGENT, ALLEGIANT and FOUR - A DIVERGENT COLLECTION。 THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT - major motion picture coming soon in 2016! Divergent: Sixteen-year-old Tris has been forced to make a terrible choice。 In a divided society where everyone must conform, Tris does not fit。 So she ventures out, alone, determined to find out where she truly belongs。 Tris can trust no one in this brutal new world, but she is drawn to a boy who seems to both threaten and protect her。 Insurgent: Tris has survived a brutal attack on her home, but she has paid a terrible price。 Wracked by grief and guilt, she becomes reckless as she struggles to accept her new future。 If Tris wants to uncover the truth, she must be stronger than ever as more shocking choices and sacrifices lie ahead。 Allegiant: The faction-based society that Tris once believed in is shattered - fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal。 So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she's known, Tris is ready。 Perhaps beyond the fence, she will find a simple new life, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties and painful memories。 But Tris's new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind。 And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature - and of herself - while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love。 Four - A Divergent Collection: Readers first encountered Tobias Eaton as "Four" in Divergent。 His voice is an integral part of Allegiant。 Readers will find more of this charismatic character's backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection。 When read together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias Eaton's life。

I loved this series。 And then I hated it。 Worst ending ever。 It didn't even make sense。 I felt like the author must have an ex that she hated and wanted to punish by writing these books。 It may be the most visceral reaction I've ever had to a series。 I loved this series。 And then I hated it。 Worst ending ever。 It didn't even make sense。 I felt like the author must have an ex that she hated and wanted to punish by writing these books。 It may be the most visceral reaction I've ever had to a series。 。。。more

Divergent - 3 starsDivergent is based in future dystopian world where the people are divided in factions。 It was a little slow in the beginning but I was intrigued nevertheless to find out what the each faction does or rather what the people in each faction do。Insurgent - 2 starsThis book dragged on so much and there was very little action。 I did not like it。Allegiant - 2 starsThis whole series is very underwhelming and disappointing。 But this book was even more disappointing than the first two Divergent - 3 starsDivergent is based in future dystopian world where the people are divided in factions。 It was a little slow in the beginning but I was intrigued nevertheless to find out what the each faction does or rather what the people in each faction do。Insurgent - 2 starsThis book dragged on so much and there was very little action。 I did not like it。Allegiant - 2 starsThis whole series is very underwhelming and disappointing。 But this book was even more disappointing than the first two books。Four - 5 starsThe only book I liked from the before or after or in-between books of the series。 I love Four and loved his POV。 。。。more

I saw the first film from the series while off sick from work, years after it had come out。 Ended up discussing it and also comparing it with other dystopian, speculative fiction, vaguely feminist YA etc。 with our teenage niece: she'd already read the whole series and I agreed to do it too so we could talk more。 Surprisingly, I found these books to be not only imaginative and fairly detailed in their worldbuilding, but also relatively better written than other YA I've read。 For example, the qual I saw the first film from the series while off sick from work, years after it had come out。 Ended up discussing it and also comparing it with other dystopian, speculative fiction, vaguely feminist YA etc。 with our teenage niece: she'd already read the whole series and I agreed to do it too so we could talk more。 Surprisingly, I found these books to be not only imaginative and fairly detailed in their worldbuilding, but also relatively better written than other YA I've read。 For example, the quality of the prose in the Hunger Games series was definitely not as well constructed, though on the other hand the film adaptations were significantly better in that case。 As an atheist, I expected to find the clear references to faith and sacrifice more chafing, but in the end I felt these were used in service of character development rather than to appeal evangelically to readers。Tris is a fully fleshed character and can be read as feminist: I think it would be worthwhile and relevant for literature teachers to discuss this and other themes (such as ethics in innovation and experimentation) with high school students。 These are the kinds of topics than can really spark intellectual exploration: high interest subject matter, while at the same time the actual literacy level could be considered relatively low challenge for the intended age range。 The books are real page-turners and I often got through 100 pages in a night before going to sleep。 Of the three main novels, I felt "Allegiant" was the least successful because I just didn't find Four to be as strong or compelling a narrative voice。 However, I'm glad I stuck with it and completed the set, as paradoxically, the original material and related bits pulled together in "Four" made him more convincing and interesting as a storyteller。 I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to have a thought-provoking conversation with yound people (if they've read it too, of course) or even adults into the genre who would like to zip through this strange but entertaining alternate future。 。。。more

This book is a collection of 4 stories, from Tobias’ perspective。 These are stories that you would recognize if you read the Divergent series, just with more clarity。The first story is about how Tobias transferred from the Abnegation faction to the Dauntless。 He does well in initiation, and finds he only has four fears, which is how his instructor gives him his nickname, Four。 The second story is about Tobias’ initiation, how he gets his first tattoo, how he beats his rival, Eric, and how he fin This book is a collection of 4 stories, from Tobias’ perspective。 These are stories that you would recognize if you read the Divergent series, just with more clarity。The first story is about how Tobias transferred from the Abnegation faction to the Dauntless。 He does well in initiation, and finds he only has four fears, which is how his instructor gives him his nickname, Four。 The second story is about Tobias’ initiation, how he gets his first tattoo, how he beats his rival, Eric, and how he finds out that he is divergent。 The third story is about how Tobias gets first place in initiation, but doesn’t choose to be a dauntless leader, because he has suspicions about the Erudite faction working with Max and Eric。 Instead, he takes another job, to be an initiation instructor。 He also meets with his factionless mother, who everyone thought was dead。 The fourth story is about Tobias’ job as an initiation instructor and meeting Tris。 It has many scenes that were in the original series, but from Tobias’ perspective。 It shows how they get closer, and how Tobias asks Tris for help to stop Erudites leader, Jeanine Matthews, to invade the abnegation faction through the Dauntless。I think this whole book is very, very useless, but if you’re a big fan of Tobias, then read it。 All of these stories you would know if you read the Divergent series, so there really wasn’t a need to write it, so I’d give it a ⅗。 I would recommend it for someone who has read the whole Divergent series but wants to read more。 It really isn’t that good。 。。。more

Divergent by Veronica Roth - you’re probably thinking, this has no virus in it, you are correct, but it contains the concept of inoculation further in the series which comes from virologyI love these books!!!!!

Interesting look at nature vs nurture An interesting look at conformity, bravery, rebellion, love, loyalty, anger, hatred。 Nature (genes) vs nurture and free choice are themes throughout the books。

I was nervous that this series would not live up to similar dystopian books I've read, but it certainly did。 This series had me captivated all throughout each book, and even had me crying at certain points。 Roth does a spectacular job putting the world of Divergent together。 I'm excited to read the bonus content she's written in addition to these four books。 I was nervous that this series would not live up to similar dystopian books I've read, but it certainly did。 This series had me captivated all throughout each book, and even had me crying at certain points。 Roth does a spectacular job putting the world of Divergent together。 I'm excited to read the bonus content she's written in addition to these four books。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Great series, until the 3rd bookI read all four of her books in record time。 I liked the movies (Divergent and Insurgent, haven’t watched Aligent) and the books, but the books do a lot of justice! You won’t be disappointed reading this series as you follow Tris through her story and get to know Four as well! The book on Four was really nice I enjoyed getting to see things from his perspective and the build up to some of the things before Tris is in his life and some of their scenes together from Great series, until the 3rd bookI read all four of her books in record time。 I liked the movies (Divergent and Insurgent, haven’t watched Aligent) and the books, but the books do a lot of justice! The book on Four was really nice I enjoyed getting to see things from his perspective and the build up to some of the things before Tris is in his life and some of their scenes together from Divergent。My biggest issue though is with the last book Allgent。 It doesn’t make sense, Four loses himself in this book and isn’t the strong, capable person we have know in the first two books。 Tris isn’t bad in this one, but they aren’t seeing each other here and are losing themselves to a random plot tossed in that doesn’t make sense to the current plot already going on in the City they left with the Factions and Factionless。 It doesn’t get resolved a lot of the things that happen。 The writing was done well but it just their were plot holes that’s were left and not handled。 Edward dies, but who killed him? Tobias’s mom is just going to give up on all her desires for bloodshed and distraction just because she loves her son。。。that’s not really how it went insurgent anyway。 The factionless are just going to listen to her change of heart and be cool with it? I guess so。And my biggest issue with this book is here。。。321Tris also dies in this book, it just doesn’t make sense, and her death is pointless because she says she doesn’t want to die, doesn’t want to leave Tobias but she runs and accepts it once she’s been shot by bullets after surviving the death serum。 It’s just dumb and doesn’t make sense for her to have died。 Roth could have easily kept her last chapters of the book, but made it Uriah’s urn, and stuff like that。 Edited Tris in and had her remaking Dauntless to what it used to be or something, if she wanted to keep Tobias as Johanna Reeves assistant and get into politics, or you could switch them around in their roles and it would have worked。 That’s my biggest issue is it just seems weird to have killed her off given everything she has done in the books and how she and Tobias have grown。It was just pointless and ruined the whole series for me。 It was a mistake and one I am not sure Roth can really come back from as an Author。 You have to be careful what you do and someone should have told her it’s not a good idea before she published her third book。 Her series had great potential, and then just lost all momentum and flat into a big fire。 。。。more

I didn't want this to end。 I really didn't expect the twist at the end of allegiant, well done。 The first 2 books were written in only Tris's perspective, the third book changed and we back and forth between Tris and 4, at times this became confusing as I didn't really know who the author was at that time 。 Overall it was a great series。 I didn't want this to end。 I really didn't expect the twist at the end of allegiant, well done。 The first 2 books were written in only Tris's perspective, the third book changed and we back and forth between Tris and 4, at times this became confusing as I didn't really know who the author was at that time 。 Overall it was a great series。 。。。more

Read first。 Or don't see the movies。 They completely destroyed the story line in the 3rd book。 The story line runs correctly from book to book。 The fourth is a explanation of 1 of the major characters in the first 3。 Read first。 Or don't see the movies。 They completely destroyed the story line in the 3rd book。 The story line runs correctly from book to book。 The fourth is a explanation of 1 of the major characters in the first 3。 。。。more

“There are so many ways to be brave in this world。 Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else。 Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater。 But sometimes it doesn’t。 Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life。” TrisA most excellent read for adults, teens, young ad “There are so many ways to be brave in this world。 Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else。 Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater。 But sometimes it doesn’t。 Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life。” TrisA most excellent read for adults, teens, young adults! “Twilight” meets “Hunger Games”。 The violence is contained and the consequences, obvious。 I always look for the way a young relationship is portrayed, and the love between Tris and Four is handled in a most mature, exemplary fashion, with honesty and commitment- and a decided lack of drama- which doesn’t mean it’s not compelling。 。。。more
